Tim Arvin | Architectural & Industrial Photography

Based in Nashville. Photographer of major projects nationwide.

For more than 20 years, I’ve worked throughout the US as an independent architectural photographer, specializing in large-scale, complex projects for ENR Top 400 contractors, international architectural and design firms, and product manufacturers. My goal has always been the same: to create the highest quality images — photographs that serve the design vision, earn awards and drive successful marketing results for my clients.

The work of iconic West Coast photographers like Weston, Adams, and Baer inspired me at an early age. While in college, I picked up a vintage 8×10-inch view camera and spent summers in the field and in the darkroom, learning the craft. The ultimate reward for those early efforts was an invitation to visit Ansel Adams’s oceanfront home and studio in Carmel, California.

After earning a Master of Science in microbiology, I spent several years working in R&D before transitioning into full-time commercial photography. I left the pharmaceutical industry to move to New York City, where I worked as an assistant architectural photographer and gained invaluable, first-hand experience at the highest level that shaped my career.

It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.

A good photograph is knowing where to stand.

“Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography
